Conor was the last of the Fitzfab crew to give me a shout about coming up with a design in time for the New Years Eve drift day in Watergrasshill. He had seen the design on Davids AE86 and I think that subtlety is something that appealed to him. As I've stated before, it doesn't always have to be bumper to bumper flames and chrome out the gate to improve the aesthetic of a car using vinyl.
A little bit of back and forth between two Conors and we had a rough design locked in, we just needed the right logos to tie it together.Chrome was going to be the weapon of choice for this particular project.Once the design was decided on, it’s down to the slow work of cutting, weeding and getting everything taped up.Not my favourite part of the process, that's for sure but I use it as a combination of quiet time and picking the music that you hear in these videos.
Fitting vinyl is one of those jobs you just can’t plow into. This is the most time consuming but important part of the process. One mistake here and you could be throwing away an important piece of a design or spending another evening driving up the country to replace the piece you fucked up.
I've always enjoyed taking short breaks during the process and seeing something come together. But its not until all the application tape is peeled away, especially with metallic films, that you can really appreciate a full design like this one.I could do 100 designs in chrome and I still wouldn't get bored of looking at it. I was slightly concerned the chrome would get lost on the silvery grey here but it really aids that subtle look we were going for.
The zenki s14 is such an iconic chassis for me. Especially given they're significantly scarcer than their older s13 siblings. In Ireland at least. Its the bulbous front end is what does it for me, looks so good with some big chrome wheels and a decent sized kit. I don't think this vinyl design has transformed this car by any means. But its an additional improvement. The cherry on top, if you will. And those small improvements are where my true love lies.
Thanks for watching.
